Pell Grants for Felons after Completing FASFA

There are many convicted felons who wish to go to school but without the financial resources, options can be somewhat limited. If you have been convicted of a felony, and you desire to start a new career, then education will be important. Under federal law, you are entitled to receive, if you qualify, for a federal pell grant which is a grant to pay for all, or part, of your educational expenses. Under the federal pell grant programs, you are not required to pay pell grant money back. These are great grants for felons who want to go to school.
For felons who have been convicted of a drug offense, there are some limitations to what type of financial aid you can receive for school but do not be discouraged! The first step in applying for any type of financial aid, both government grants for felons and non-government grants, as well as student loans, will lie in your completion of the FASFA. In many cases you can complete the FASFA online and submit the documentation for processing. The FASFA will determine your “need” for education financial aid and, once this is processed, the school you wish to attend can tell you what federal, state, and school grants you may be entitled to. So, get out there and get your FASFA started so you can begin the process for tapping into educational grants!
