Grants for felons come in a variety of shapes and sizes and often they are not even grants designed solely for felons.

If you are a convicted felon, it is important to look outside of your felony conviction to find grants that are available to you simply because you have financial need or you may be unemployed.  As the summer months approach, many felons are working diligently to find employment but, at the same time, may struggle to keep up with essential utility payments.  If you are having difficulty in paying your utility bills, especially your electricity bill, it is important to call your utility company and ask about hardship grants.  Under many state and federal laws, utility providers are not permitted to disconnect services when they are not paid if you meet certain requirements.  In addition, there are grant programs that can assist you with utility payments when you have a hardship.  To find out about these programs, look up your utility companies website and be sure to look at small print in the footer of the site as this is where they often display links for the grants programs.  In addition, call your state utility commission and ask about grant programs.  There are government grants to pay bills, you just have to search and ask about them.  Most utility companies will not readily offer the information to you unless you ask and when looking for grants for felons, we know it’s all about asking if you want to get something.
